Udall holds town hall in Durango

udall_thumbRecently, the Durango Herald has been testing the waters of live streaming video and has included it in recent coverage of President Barack Obama in Grand Junction and Senator Mark Udall in Durango. Senator Mark Udall’s office stated the official purpose of his visit to Durango was to discuss energy, however with the contentious topic of health care reform on everyones minds and television sets, questions about socialism and “death panel” made their way into the venue. Criticised by some as too constrictive a format, Udall answered hand written questions selected randomly with no option for dialog. We experienced some technical difficulty with streaming video on both occasions but we hope to dial it in on future efforts. Stay tuned…

Obama holds town hall in Grand Junction

obamaMore than 1,600 people packed Warrior Stadium at Central High School in Grand Junction to hear President Barack Obama speak and take questions from the audience about health care reform. When Obama took the stage, he said: “When you hear about these experiences, when you think of the millions of people denied coverage because of preexisting conditions, the thousands who have their policies cancelled because of illness, the countless folks like Nathan, I want you to remember one thing: there but for the grace of God go I.”
During the event as I worked on streaming video, taking still photos and trying to update the website as well, I felt a bit outnumbered as DenverPost.com had at least 3 people covering visuals. All told, they didn’t stream the event, so at least our small town paper offered something unique for the handful of readers that decided to watch on a beautifully sunny Saturday afternoon.
