Trading trailers

bikeLife changes in many ways when you go from one child to two. For instance, your slick late model single-seater bike trailer, much enjoyed and carefully stored, becomes functionally obsolete. So now we’re in the market for a two seater but aren’t interested in shelling out what we might for four-wheel transportation with a motor. Surely there are parents out there with a great deal of experience in this arena. What brands have you tried and how do you like them? Did you buy locally or order over the Internet? All counsel is welcome.

    Katie,
We bought a 2 seater Burley on ebay. A bit of a nail-biter experience and still pricey, but oh do we love it! As my friend Steph (who got her 2 seater Burley at a garage sale for $150) said “it’s liberating to be able to haul your kids and their myriad stuff around w/o getting in the car.”
You could try posting a “biketrailer:wanted” on craigslist and durangoparents. It seems they have a limited lifespan within a family as kids get bigger and heavier. I’m thinking next summer my son will be riding alongside of me.

Thanks mucho, Rachel, for the suggestions. I was thinking about going the eBay route but wondered if the shipping wouldn’t be an arm and a leg. Finding a used one locally would be such a bonus.

We ended up with the more expensive chariot carrier, because the resale value is pretty great, FWIW…

Friends, can you maybe asssit me? A buddy of mine is considering buying themselves a new CBR 1000 as their first new bike! Never rode anything else before! I did say this is definitely not a very good idea for the first one, but they are adamant and wont change their mind! What do you think, is this ok and would u maybe then just recommend good lessons?
