A Durango rider was rushed from the criterium course in an ambulance after taking a spill on Main Avenue early Sunday afternoon.
Samuel Craven, 22, was competing in the men’s 19-34 class when the wheel on his bike apparently touched the wheel of another rider, tipping off the fall, said Gaige Sippy, race director.
Paramedics already on the scene for the race were within a block of the crash and responded immediately. Craven was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center.
His condition was not available Sunday evening, but race organizers received word that he was responsive.
“We hear he’s in good condition,” Sippy said. “All his faculties are about him.”
The race, which was in its beginning stages when the crash occurred, resumed after the scene was cleared.
